Opinions are like ——–.  Everyone’s got one.

This is never more true than in matters relating to politics, the economy and the environment. Boy, if you had a dime for every time you wanted to give a Congressman a piece of your mind… Hey, you’d have alot of dimes.  The thing with elected officials is that most times they want your opinion.  Moreover, they need it – to ensure they’re representing you.  The tough part is that they’re hard to catch.  Always running off to Washington.  Sheesh.

Sustainable Business Roundtable

Well, now’s your chance to turn your opinion into policy fodder. Savannah’s District 12 Congressman John Barrow will be live and in the flesh, ready to talk shop on Monday, April 13th at the Sustainable Business Roundtable. Sponsored by the Environmental Defense Fund and the Georgia Conservancy, the Roundtable will take place at the TCCa/SEDA headquarters from 5 – 8pm and will include a lengthy discussion on repowering, refueling and rebuilding America. (RSVP to attend to Dawn A. Randolph at 678-764-4502 or dawn@democracydawning.com.)

As TCCa’s fresh new intern, Fitz wanted me to get my blogging feet wet by getting you up to speed on one of the coolest things to hit the streets of Savannah: SUAF.

Presented by our dear friends over at A.W.O.L. (All Walks of Life), and sponsored in part by a slew of progressive community partners, SUAF (a.k.a The Savannah Urban Arts Festival) is a six-day series of live performances, forums, workshops and film screenings celebrating the diverse styles of art, music, and writing that have developed in and around urban culture. The goal of the festival is to foster dialogue between area youth, citizens, and civic leaders about ways to utilize these art forms to create positive change in communities by engaging people, particularly youth, in activities that offer creative outlets, teach job and life skills, and create new entrepreneurial opportunities.

This year’s SUAF jumps off May 5th-10th, 2009 in Savannah alongside GreenFest on May 9th-10th. SUAF through its partnership with GreenLifeSpace aims to raise awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability in urban areas, including steps that individuals and organizations can take to reduce their impact on the environment. It’s not easy being Green!
