Savannah’s Music Intelligence Solutions (uPlaya.com) CEO blogging on Huffington Post

Nice.

Looks like Savannah’s Music Intelligence Solutions (uPlaya.com) CEO David Meredith has scored a blogging spot on the Huffington Post (the #1 blog in the world.)  In his debut post titled, “Susan Boyle’s ‘Dream’ Provides a Wake up Call to the Music Industry,” Meredith talks about how Susan Boyle’s meteoric rise to fame provides clues on how to revitalize the business of Music.

Hopefully we’ll see more from M.I.S. and David on the Huffington Post, but for now we just wanted to say, “AWESOME!”  These guys keep popping up all over the globe, and we’re thrilled to see this 2009 Innovation Award winner kicking a$$ and taking names (all while carrying the Savannah flag).

Feeling BLUE? A global oceans film & conservation event comes to Savannah.

Allow me to begin by apologizing for leaving you nearly blogless the week.  Chaulk it up to Fitz and I both reeling from post-birthday depression (and perhaps a hangover or two from the celebration).  Regardless, if there were one thing for you to take away from this week, it would be the follow.  So listen up!

The world will be watching Savannah once again.  This time it’s because of BLUE - and ocean film festival featuring the greatest collection of ocean films and filmmakers - that will take place here June 10 - 14. The event will screen over 50 finalist films and host a capstone industry awards competition.  The event has garnered support of Disney, who will open the inaugural BLUE Ocean Film Festival with a screening of its first theatrical release, EARTH, produced by Disneynature, which set box office records for a documentary when it opened on Earth Day, 2009.  Overall, the festival promises to gather paramount ocean filmmakers, broadcasters and conservation leaders from around the world.

TAP-ping into a Great Cause: TAP Project & World Water Week, March 22 - 28

There is a creative way to approach humanity.  The TAP Project is a testament to that.  The TAP Project was born in 2007 in New York City around a simple idea: restaurants would ask their patrons to donate $1 or more for the tap water they usually enjoy for free, and all funds raised would support UNICEF’s efforts to bring clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world.  This year marks the second year that TAP has taken their project nationwide.  So don’t be surprised this year during World Water Week (March 22 - 28) when TAP comes to a restaurant near you.

Beginning with 300 restaurants in New York in ‘07 and expanding to more than 2,300 restaurants in 44 states in ‘08 making over $855,000, which helped provide clean water and sanitation to children in Iraq, Côte d’Ivoire, Nicaragua and Belize.  This year, thanks to local environmental activist and Head of Sustainability Initiatives at Melaver, Inc., Tommy Linstroth, TAP is headed to Savannah.

Her Majesty’s Consul General at SICC last night (among others)!

Last night we celebrated Savannah Internationalists as only we can, with creative style.  Yes, SICC is back and badder than ever.  Launching our first of four quarterly SICC’s, the Savannah International Cocktail Club boasted a large, jubliant turnout despite the dreary weather outdoors.  Churchill’s provided ample pub-style, happy hour specials and an appetizer buffet to a crowd that included folks from Brazil, Costa Rica, Holland, Italy, France, Sweden, Egypt, Syria, Poland, Chile, Slovenia, Tanzania, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom and, of course, the US of A.  Yes, we had a wide array of interesting, fun-loving globetrotters that are now calling Savannah home in some capacity.  And, as we all know, being home to a large international community is a vital part of making Savannah a diverse, vibrant and creative city.

Noteworthy from last night was Mariela Orellana, a SICC regular and President of Community Navigators & Interpreters, Inc., who came last night with her papers certifying her citizenship.  We know it’s been a long and windy road to get those so congratulations Mariela!
