Every other week or so we’ll turn this space over to a guest blogger so you can get thoughts, opinions and creative noodling from all over the map. This week’s guest blogger is Tom Kohler, Executive Director of Chatham-Savannah Citizen Advocacy.   Read on for Tom’s goodwill ambassador idea….

I have been helping two SCAD professors with a graduate course they are teaching. One teaches Urban Design; the other teaches Anthropology.

Fifteen graduate students are learning about the “Relationship Landscape” of Savannah as a way to understand more about the physical landscape of the city. Several long time Savannahians agreed to be interviewed as part of the class experience. Boo Hornstein met with students at Massey School on Gordon and Abercorn. Arnold and Lorlee Tenenbaum hosted students in their home, as did John and Ginger Duncan. Richard Shinholster hosted students in his store on MLK and Jane Fishman met with students in her garden on Boundary Street. Each interview opened a new way to see Savannah from the perspective of someone who has been active and involved in the making of Savannah.

Every other week or so we’ll turn this space over to a guest blogger so you can get thoughts, opinions and creative noodling from all over the map. This week’s guest blogger is Creative Coast Board Member Rad Harrell.  He runs Talent Soup (www.talentsoup.com). Read on for Rad’s entrepreneurial spark plug of the week…..

We’ve all experienced summertime lemonade stands, beckoning us to spend $0.25 (or $1) on a cool (sometimes) glass (paper or plastic) of sweet (perhaps) and sour (always) deliciousness. But rarely have I stopped to think about what a great business model the kid has stumbled upon! Sure I’ve parted with many a coin or dollar here and there but did I consider the profit margins? Nope. Not once. Just excited to see a kid flexing his or her entrepreneurial muscles in our great nation that encourages such “risky” endeavors.

Think about this though, the lemonade stand’s operational ability, i.e. the kid’s “business mode”, is usually dependent on free raw materials! What a deal! Raid the kitchen and make your fortune! For a grade-schooler, this is capitalistic nirvana.

On the music front…

Hello friends.

A quick note on an otherwise sleepy day in early February.

There are two groups in the region who have come together to bring some magic to our lovely city.

The first group is a weird bunch of kids that want more music in Savannah and they want it right now.

They visited SXSW in 2010 and planted a seed… A huge seed at that.

The concept? 30+ bands will come to Savannah over the course of 4 nights in March (9th – 12th).  They will… um STOPOVER en route to SXSW.  The Stopover gang has a beautiful logo, a great website, and a team of awesome people that are doing their best to change the music scene in Savannah.  We have to support these folks.  Holler at them, join the team, go see the shows, and enjoy your life.

The second group of wildcats is a highly organized cast of characters that have developed a stellar idea themselves.

Here is the concept:

BANDWAGON is a three-day (April 15-17) celebration of the fine art of music + event poster design, with exhibitions, panels, workshops, film screenings, live music and a chance to meet and learn from more than 40 of the industry’s most inspiring artists.
