Auf wiedersehen Savannah, hello L.A.! Local designer on Project Runway’s long-awaited 6th season.

If you love Project Runway as much as this gal (just admit it, even Fitz watches it), then you’re among those highly anticipating the August 20th season premiere. It feels like ages since the finale of season five - well, it was, no thanks to a legal battle between former mother network Bravo and new mother network Lifetime - and there are noticeable changes to the show this go ’round. For one, season six was filmed in Los Angeles and not New York, where all other seasons where shot. Episodes promise a return of our favorites familiar judges: Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, Nina Garcia and Michael Kors, as well as guest appearances by Christina Aguilera, Eva Longoria Parker and Lindsay Lohan.

But that’s not the only reason to watch; this season, we’ll have a hometown hero to root for!! Mitchell Hall, 26, is a resident Savannahian and the creative director for retail at Bleu Belle Boutique. Hall is also a graduate of fashion design from Savannah College of Art and Design and will join 15 other contestants from around the country and the world at the outset of the new season of this highly-competitive and uber hip reality series. Don’t know Mitchell Hall? Well, you can get to know him better through the Project Runway website, where you can watch his audition tape, visit his home and tour his closet.

SCAD’s Brenda Brathwaite takes on Auschwitz (and the WSJ) with a game (”Train”)

Many people equate games with “fun.” Brenda Brathwaite, game designer and Chair of the Interactive Design and Game Development department at SCAD, equates games with interactive experience and education.

Her newest board game design is “Train,” is more of a somber treatise than a traditional game.  Through the course of play, Train leads players on a journey allegorical of Jews being transported to Auschwitz.  By the way the rules are written, however, players often don’t realize the breadth of each decision and the consequence of each move forward until the end.  With the gravity of the topic it touches, Train does more than introduce players to a poignant topic in world history, it redefines the scope of board games in general.

Train debuted at the Games for Change conference in New York City last month.  The board is comprised of three train tracks astride a broken window, representative of Kristallnacht, when the Nazi’s smashed the windows of Jewish homes.  The three train tracks are the point of play, and players are loaded into the trains and then moved to an unknown destination via command cards.
