So I’ve been hiding out all day (away from the office) trying to finish our annual economic report and was sorta in one of those snarky I-want-to-be-done moods until I saw this.
And it totally made my day.
Microsoft might as well pack it’s bags and go home. Because, well…even our trusty mayor (or at least someone in his office) has a Mac.
I know this because he’s got a new blog. And there’s a picture of him. With his Mac. (And the caption, “Otis Johnson, blogger.”)
Did I mention I love Savannah?

The critical subtext of course is that local politicians are jumping into the blogosphere. Clint Murphy’s got one too. As long as they fill it with regular content (there is nothing more lame than a stagnant blog for “blogs” sake), I personally think it’s fantastic.
(Unofficially) Go Mr. Mayor! (Unofficially) Go Clint! Get your blog on!
P.S. If you know of any other politicians-turned-bloggers, let us know in the comments.

Mayor Johnson is so hip…It hurts! Gotta love him for this.
I have it on good authority that that may belong to photographer Colin Douglas Gray. Although, Maybe I am just trying to show some link love to Colin by posting his name in this response as a direct link. hahahahahahah. I am in one of those snarky moods too.
Dude, don’t play with my emotions. I gotta believe.
I am so jealous, I would feel so much cooler if I had a Mac. [sigh]
Well, besides the somewhat cheesy (although highly entertaining and let’s be honest — charming) picture, I think it’s great.
It looks as though they’ve got a decent start on content (3-4 posts) and they’re allowing comments. (Although I’d caution them against spam and hope they moderate the comments.)
At any rate, cheers to Mr. Johnson and his fellow politically charged blogger compatriots. Let the blogging commence.
I think it’s fantastic that Otis has the wherewithal to start talking to the community directly (at least in theory). I am pleased to know that he and/or his staff are connecting to those in the blog-o-sphere and beyond.
Are there any other Mayor’s following this trend? That would be interesting to know! Cheers to Mayor Johnson and company!
The mayor told me that’s not his computer. He’s a PC guy.
I’m surprised that more politicians haven’t started their own blog. They can talk directly to their voters.
As a fellow Mac user (because my hubby insists), I must note that The Creative Coast’s affinity for Mac may seem a bit polarizing to non-Mac users. There are things that my Mac won’t do that my PC will do. And of course vice versa. Different strokes for different folks, eh?
Scott:
Oh well, I can dream. Agreed, I would think blogs could be really cool for politicians. Outside the tired “town-meeting” format, what other opportunity do regular citizens get the chance to engage their political leaders? I can’t think of any.
Betsy:
I should probably rephrase my comments to note that this is my personal affinity for Macs (albeit a recent one.) As you know, it’s also just fun to stir the pot a lil’.
Rest assured, the rest of the Creative Coast office are all avid users of PC’s and regularly ridicule me for my recent (and admittedly clichéd) defection. Absolutely, different strokes for different folks.
P.S. Although, as far as things that your mac won’t do that your PC will…that’s what Parallels is for. ;)
Fitz:
I think I like your blog even more now that I know that you are a Mac-person. I am a mac user (have been since the late ’80s) - they are the best!
Hey, kudos to you for pointing out Parallels.
I can think of many more things my Mac does that my “at-work” PC does not do (most importantly: make me smile).
Heee heee
To the issue: If more politicians blogged and made themselves “accessible”, people may like them more.
WOW! See what kind of marketing move for Otis that was? That Apple (his or not) increased his likability and coolness factor by major points! Mayor Weiner was never that cool! (Gosh, I do miss all the jokes and puns with her name.) I like this site and I love and miss Savannah.
Why haven’t you posted the recycling petition website?:
http://www.savannahrecycling.org
Hey, thanks John! Good news actually, we already have the site listed on our website…I believe either Stacy or someone from our office posted it several months ago.
http://thecreativecoast.org/directory/view/1504-savannah-recycling
At any rate, never hurts to be extra sure on such an important issue, so thanks for bringing it to our attention!
fritz, why do you think the mayor refused to sign the recycling petition? if he is really for the environment, why not? mac vs pc? so many contradictions. what’s your take? Is it all just photo op moments for him?
Did the blog win it for him? /sarcasm
Do you think he’ll abandon it now that he’s won?
