Live blogging? Sure, why not

So we’re going to try this whole live blogging thing. Just to warn you, it’s kinda choppy, as we’re doing it well, “live.” Who knows what value you will take from it, but hey, it’s trendy so we’re going to try it.

Throughout the day, I’ll update this post with some of the stuff we’re doing/seeing/learning/sleeping through here at the BlogSavannah UnConference.

Video Blogging Session

[10:37am] Right now I’m sitting in the “vlogging” (video blogging) session with John Rife (findingjohn.com). It’s pretty cool…I’m not too up on the whole “vlogging” thing, so this should be interesting.

How to vlog?

freevlog.com - a great place to start

How do you find vlogs?

- blip.tv
- mefeddia.com
- metacafe.com
- vlogmap.com

Vlogging tools

jumpcut.com - cool online video edting site.
viddler.com - an alternative to youtube (it’s got areas to comment and link, within the context of the video)
revver.com - revenue sharing vlogging site

Companies using video

Ford models - creating unique videos with their models, posting on their sites. Excercise videos, for examples…with hot models!?!

Podcasting and Social Music Session

[11:19am] Trying to get the damn projector to work. Let’s go fellas!

[11:22am] Getting started… Two great guys; Phil Sellers (of citytrex.com) and Patrick Rogers (pressplay publicity and the south magazine) are gonna get their teach on about podcasting, social music and ways to monetize both.

What is a podcast?

From Wikipedia: A podcast is a collection of digital media files which is distributed over the Internet, often using syndication feeds, for playback on portable media players and personal computers. The term, like “radio“, can refer either to the content itself or to the method by which it is syndicated; the latter is also termed podcasting. The host or author of a podcast is often called a podcaster.

How to put together a podcast?

Pretty easy actually. All you need is a mic and an internet connection and some audio editing software. You can go buy a mic and adapter at Radio Shack or even use your computer mic (if you’re just recording your own voice.) A few how-to’s as well: here and here.

As far as audio editing software, there’s GarageBand (comes free on the mac) or Audacity (an open source audio editing package [download]).

Legal Stuff

Screw trying to license music. It’s not worth it unless you’re a billioniare. It’s easier to approach individual local artists and ask ‘em if you can reproduce their stuff…but as far as the big guys, it ain’t worth it. You probably won’t get caught if you podcast thier music, but if you do, you could be liable for up to $150,000 per song. Yea.

Local companies using podcasting

- Savannah Music Festival does a nifty job.
- Same with iTour Savannah

[11:58am] Some nice discussion…talking about a few loop holes in displaying music content. Apparently, if you wanted to do a blog post on the “rise and fall of Britney Spears” based on the first song on each of her three albums (Patrick’s example) you could so so and not get sued. You could play the first three songs if you streamed them (i.e. not make them available for download) AND kept the streaming functionality up for less than 14 days. Whooda thunk.

Deep thoughts, by Phil Sellers

“If you don’t get a ‘cease and desist’ letter in the first year of doing business in this space, you ain’t pushing the envelope enough.”

[12:02pm] Time to break for lunch…I’m hungry. Stomach growling.

I love the updates and I wish I could be there!!!!

  2. http://www.uphoster.com gives you the option to earn money.
    How does this work?
We setup a share system that allows you to earn from your image uploads, you get 100% revenues.
Google pays AdSense publishers on a per click basis as well as per impression.
    Why are we doing this?
We think that we, the webmasters don’t have a lot of value without the users so why not let the users earn on the side of the image uploads.
    There are any restrictions?
    1. You need to have an AdSense account through Google.
    2. You have to know what Adsense is
    Is this allowed by Google?
We looked all over Adsense TOS and TEC, we didn’t find anything saying we are not allowing to do so.
How do i start to earn money with Adsense?
You read carefully all Adsense Policies and register an account at Register page.

One last thing before you start
you won’t be able to see your own Adsense Ads for the simple logic - you are not allowed to click on your own ID so we save you from any future mistake.
